| Course Description | This course provides students with an advanced knowledge about the history and theory of urban form with a specific emphasis on urban morphology. The course examines urban principles through the investigation of a variety cities’ urban history. Urban design approaches will be discussed through lectures, readings, and seminars including historical change in urban form and design. It focuses on ideas, principles and designs that have shaped the history, theory and practice of urban design. The course will highlight fundamentals of shaping and composing cities and the main elements of urbanism - the neighborhood, the block, the square, the street and the building. The course is organized in the manner that students are able to analyze urban schemes from various periods as well as apply that knowledge in urban scale projects in their studio projects. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) kentsel tarihi, teoriyi, kentsel tasarımın bina tipleri ölçeğindeki kentsel formunu ve bunların kentsel kodlar gibi düzenleyici araçlara dönüştürülmesini anlamak; 2) kentleri oluşturan ve şekillendiren temel kentleşme unsurlarını tanımlamak ve farklı bağlamlarda ve ölçeklerde çok boyutlu kentsel sorunları çözmek için en uygun yolları önermek; 3) belirli kentsel formların arkasındaki düşünce ve tasarım sürecini değerlendirmek; 4) kentsel tasarımın tarihsel kökenlerini, modern planlama ve tasarım eleştirilerini, mekân ve yer kavramlarını, kentsel sürdürülebilirlik sorunlarını ve kentsel tasarım uygulamalarını ayırt etmek; 5) kentsel tasarım ve şehir planlaması çözümleri ile sürdürülebilir kentsel büyüme ve kalkınma için gelecekteki tasarımcılar olarak, kentleşme ile ilişkili dinamik güçleri ve süreçleri eleştirel bir şekilde analiz etmek; |
