Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) Formulate a research question — organize their work related to any research (article, thesis, dissertation) 2) Design a research plan or program — formulate a research question, the aims, and objectives of the research. 3) Develop an appropriate design including methods for data collection and processing for the research. 4) Apply suitable sampling techniques, data collection, and data analysis methods. 5) Distinguish between quantitative and qualitative research. 6) Perform suitable sampling techniques, data collection, and data analysis methods 7) Assess the quality of the research and its results. 8) Present and deliver the research in different formats (presentation, poster, report, etc.). |

2) | Introduction to Research: An exploration of what constitutes academic research, including different types of research and their importance in academia and beyond. |
3) | Research Methods and the Research Cycle: Detailed discussion on various research methodologies (qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods) and the stages of the research cycle (planning, conducting, analyzing, and publishing). |
4) | Research Process – Independent Study: Students begin their independent study on selected topics, focusing on identifying research questions and objectives. |
5) | Submission of Research Paper 1 - Written Analysis and Discussion First deadline for a written assignment. Students submit a paper analyzing a specific aspect of their research topic, including a discussion of preliminary findings. |
6) | Literature Review Techniques and strategies for conducting a comprehensive literature review, including how to source, evaluate, and synthesize relevant literature. |
7) | Research Process – Independent Study Continued independent study, with an emphasis on refining research methods and beginning data collection. |
8) | Submission of Research Paper 2 - Written Analysis and Discussion Second written assignment due. Students submit a paper detailing their research methodology and any initial results or insights gained. |
