Overall Educational Objective To gain the basic understanding of the principles of macroeconomics.
Course Description This course introduces macroeconomic theory, focusing on the aggregate behavior of households, firms, and the government. It covers the measurement of economic activity, inflation, and unemployment; the long-run dynamics of the real economy, the monetary-system, and prices; the basics of open-economy macroeconomics; and an introduction to short-run economic fluctuations using the aggregate demand–aggregate supply framework.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Identify and interpret key macroeconomic indicators (including GDP, inflation, and unemployment) and describe what they reveal about the state of an economy.
2) Describe how the real economy and the monetary system function in the long run, including the basic drivers of economic growth and the relationship between money and prices.
3) Explain basic mechanisms in open-economy macroeconomics.
4) Describe the concept of short-run economic fluctuations and identify the basic roles of aggregate demand and aggregate supply in explaining them.
