| Overall Educational Objective |
This course aims to prepare students to build and improve their arsenal in conducting research in psychology, with a focus on samples of older adults. They will be reading the current literature, conducting analyses, and write research reports. At the end of the course, they are aimed to be ready to be junior members in psychology research labs.

| Course Description |
This course is an advanced course on developmental psychology, with a focus on older adults. The main goals of the course are to familiarize students with the lifespan perspective on developmental psychology. Further, the course will be focusing on psychosocial predictors of health in older adults. At the end of the course, the students would be equipped with necessary arsenal to be able to understand and critique empirical articles published in highly acclaimed psychology journals. Students will also be able to conduct research, evaluate the findings and write them up in an empirical format. Students will be conducting secondary data analysis from an available data set and testing their pre-registered hypotheses. One of the main aims of this course is to promote critical thinking and enable students to critically evaluate the research findings communicated in scientific journals. |

Bu ders, gelişim psikolojisi alanında ileri düzey bir ders olup, yaşlı yetişkinlere odaklanmaktadır. Dersin ana hedefleri, öğrencileri gelişim psikolojisinde yaşam boyu perspektifle tanıştırmaktır. Ayrıca ders, yaşlı yetişkinlerde sağlıkla ilgili psikososyal belirleyicilere odaklanacaktır. Dersin sonunda, öğrenciler, saygın psikoloji dergilerinde yayımlanan ampirik makaleleri anlamak ve eleştirmek için gerekli donanıma sahip olacaklardır. Öğrenciler ayrıca araştırma yapabilecek, bulguları değerlendirebilecek ve bunları ampirik bir formatta yazabileceklerdir. Öğrenciler, mevcut bir veri setinden ikincil veri analizi yapacak ve önceden kayıtlı hipotezlerini test edeceklerdir. Bu dersin ana amaçlarından biri, eleştirel düşünmeyi teşvik etmek ve öğrencilerin bilimsel dergilerde yayımlanan araştırma bulgularını eleştirel bir şekilde değerlendirebilmelerini sağlamaktır |

| Teaching Methods | This course will be taught entirely in the flipped format. Students will be assigned reading materials or pre-class assignments every week.
Most weeks, all students will be engaging in a discussion on research methodology and theoretical background of articles.
Most weeks, students will learn to advance their literature reviewing skills as well as coding and analysing in a statistical package program.
Students will be expected to prepare for class by spending sufficient time to master the preparatory materials. They will also be expected to contribute appropriately to class discussions and to assisting the learning of other students.
Students will be conducting a research project and receive feedback along the steps, where they will be learning from their mistakes or areas where they can make improvements.
I as the instructor commit to preparing and selecting high-quality materials for each class. This course is aimed at final year Psychology students. |
| Homework and Projects | Students will be asked to engage in discussion sessions of the course based on the assigned required reading of an article published in high impact psychology journals.
Students will also be asked to code and analyse with a statistical package program and write an empirical article based on these analyses in APA format. |
| Laboratory Work | Students will use a statistical package program to enter and analyse the data they have collected as well as to do literature review for their empirical paper. |
