| Overall Educational Objective |
This course focuses on mainstream theories of social psychology and engages in their current discussions. Students will gain insight into the social psychology perspective on concepts such as self, social perception, social evolution, social cognition, social decision-making, attitudes, and inter/intra-group relationships. |
| Course Description |
This course is designed as an advanced course in readings and research within the field of social psychology. Students will be introduced the methodology crisis in psychology, with a particular emphasis on addressing these concerns through replication studies. In subsequent weeks, the course will cover both mainstream and contemporary trends in social psychology. The class will adopt a format of lectures and discussions. Pre-class activities before the lecture classes are watching the supportive videos related to lecture materials. Lectures will provide a deep understanding of concepts, problems, and theories, while discussions will actively engage students in addressing methodological issues and encourage responses to these concerns. Before the discussion days, students will be assigned an empirical article, tasked with pre-class reading, and required to compile a list of three limitations related to the paper. Discussions will center around potential study ideas to overcome these limitations. Overall, students will develop an understanding of the methodology, concepts, and theories in social psychology. In terms of research skills, students will acquire the ability to address gaps in the field, gaining real-time experience in formulating research questions, developing research methodologies, proposing a replication study, and presenting it. |
