Overall Educational Objective | To learn and practice the basic business communication skills so as to communicate effectively in business environment. | ||||
Course Description | The course mainly focuses on introducing the students both the theory and the practice of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills used in business life. During this course student will have the chance to learn, discuss and practice communication (verbal/non-verbal) and presentation skills, listening skills, communication barriers, writing skills, before and after meeting principles, interpersonal communication (emotional intelligence, empathy, social intelligence). |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) use the basic verbal and nonverbal communication skills 2) prepare presentations and present them effectively 3) communicate in a workplace effectively with the colleagues during team-works, meetings, etc.; 4) write e-mails, meeting minutes, memos and prepare reports; 5) act as an active listener, deal with communications barriers and use his/her emotional and social intelligence in workplace. |

Homework and Projects | The students will be making one presentation as a group at the end of the course. The groups will be formed, and the details of the projects will be announced later by the instructor. Each group will have maximum 5 members and each team member will present their part individually. yukselzeh@mef.edu.tr The instructor may act as facilitator for class/group discussions and observe how each student contributes / adds value to the discussed topic. The topic may either cover previous material or assigned new material from videos and book chapters. Homework, if assigned, must be submitted on time and in the requested format. Late submission will not be accepted. This is a flipped course where each student is expected to read assigned material and watch videos in advance, follow class and Blackboard, and actively participate. If you are sick on the day of the exam you need to submit a legitimate doctor’s report explicitly stating that your excuse prevents you from taking the exam in line with university regulations. Academic dishonesty and plagiarism will be subject to the YÖK disciplinary regulation. |
