Overall Educational Objective | To learn major theories about emotion, to acquire a perspective on emotions and their relation with morality, cognition, social learning and development from a social psychological standpoint, and to apply existing social psychological knowledge on research regarding emotion. | |||||
Course Description | This course aims to open a discussion ground for social psychological theories related to emotion, emotion formation, function of emotions, and emotions in cross cultural context. Students are expected to learn major theories and discuss these within a social psychological perspective. Moreover, throughout the course students will be introduced to various approaches to emotion research and they are expected to analyze, evaluate, compare and contrast these various approaches. | |||||
Course Description in Turkish | Bu derste duygular, duygu oluşumu, duyguların işlevi ve kültürlerarası bağlamda duyguların yeri ile ilgili sosyal psikolojik kuramlar için bir tartışma zemini sunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Öğrencilerin duygular hakkındaki önemli teorileri öğrenmeleri ve bunları sosyal psikolojik bir perspektifte tartışmaları beklenmektedir. Ayrıca, ders boyunca duygular alanındaki araştırmalar dahilinde görülen çeşitli yaklaşımlar tanıtılacak ve öğrencilerden sunulan bu yaklaşımları analiz etmeleri, değerlendirmeleri, ve karşılaştırmaları beklenmektedir. |

Teaching Methods | Students will work by themselves for preparing presentations and they will work together during discussion hours. busraalparslan@gmail.com Late submissions are not accepted. 70% attendance is obligatory Missing an exam is tolerable only in case of extenuating circumstances. Each class will be two hours. In the first hour one of the students will present the material and other students will take notes and prepare discussion questions. Second hour will be spent by class discussion. Therefore, students are expected to attend every class especially the ones they will be presenting. Plagiarism and cheating will not be tolerated. This class will be held online therefore each student must have at least a working microphone and a webcam is encouraged in order to make the class more interactive.
