Overall Educational Objective Learn the fundamentals of development economics and evaluate the differences between quantitative and qualitative dimensions of economic development theory.
Course Description This course intends to discuss both classical and contemporary issues in development economics. Building on the knowledge accumulated in macro and micro sides of economic theory, Development Economics intends to review issues such as; education, health, human capital development, environmental issues, industrialization, integration between macroeconomic issues and economic fundamentals. After successful completion of the course, students will have ability to enroll in graduate level courses related with economics theory, further issues development economics etc.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders hem klasik hem de güncel kalkınma teorilerini tartışmayı hedeflemektedir. İktisat teorisinin makro ve mikro boyutlarından edinilen bilgilerin ışığında Kalkınma Ekonomisi dersi, eğitim, sağlık, beşeri sermaye gelişimi, çevresel gelişmeler, sanayileşme, makro iktisadi gelişmeler ve iktisadi yapılar arasındaki ilişkileri açıklamaktadır. Bu dersi başarıyla tamamlayan öğrenciler yüksek lisans seviyesinde iktisat ve iktisat teorisi ile ilgili derslere devam edebilecek bilgi birikimine sahip olacaktır.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) compare and contrast different views to economic development
2) understand the difference between economic growth and development
3) evaluate the importance of health, education, demography and urbanization as development tools for economic policy making
4) analyze the trade-off between inequality and growth
5) explain the impact of international trade and finance on development challenges of the globe.

7) Demonstration of competence in information technologies, and the ability to use computer and other technologies for purposes related to the pursuit of knowledge in psychology and the broader social sciences.
8) Skills to communicate the knowledge of psychological science effectively, in a variety of formats, in both Turkish and in English (in English, at least CEFR B2 level).
9) Recognition, understanding, and respect for the complexity of sociocultural and international diversity.
10) Recognition for the need for, and the skills to pursue, lifelong learning, inquiry, and self-improvement.
11) Ability to formulate critical hypotheses based on psychological theory and literature, and design studies to test those hypotheses.
12) Ability to acquire knowledge independently, and to plan one’s own learning.
13) Demonstration of advanced competence in the clarity and composition of written work and presentations.
