Overall Educational Objective To learn to recognize the relationship between design idea and a fine resolved detail development process and the realization.
Course Description This elective course aims to encourage students to understand architecture through reading the designed details. Focusing on the translation methodologies and the strategies of a conceptual design to a fine resolved project will be the core of the course.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) belirli bir detay ile tasarım fikri arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmak;
2) bir kavramsal tasarımın iyi çözülmüş bir projeye dönüştürülmesi için çeviri yöntemlerini ve stratejilerini okumak;
3) konumlu ve temsil edilmiş bir detayı okumak ve analiz etmek;
4) bir mimari çözümde belirli bir durum için malzeme seçimi ve kullanımını ayırt etmek;
5) malzemelerin mimari tasarım ve detay çözümlemesi üzerindeki etkisini anlamak.

Required/Recommended ReadingsRecommended Reading: Weber, D.M. (1991) Beyond Bolts: Architectural Details, Construction, Meaning. Thesis M. Arch, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dept. of Architecture. Other readings correspondent to weekly works will be published via Blackboard.
Teaching MethodsAfter the introduction and general discussions on the generation of the detail and the ways to understand the architecture through details in four weeks, by the investigation of the chosen projects students are expected to search the relation between the design idea and the designed / constructed details and make a critical interpretation on this relationship every week for ten weeks. At the end of the semester each student is expected to submit a self-chosen project and make the same research and interpretation with the same methodology made through the semester.
