Overall Educational Objective To learn how to analyze large amounts of information from various sources and use them in enhancing one’s critical thinking abilities.
Course Description The aim of this course is to enhance in students the critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in their undergraduate studies. It will focus on synthesizing statements and arguments. This course will facilitate all four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in an integrated approach to promote the use of spoken and written English in an academic context. Since the main focus of the course is on speaking, the listening, reading and writing tasks will assist to either generate or to complement speaking. The course will help students become more confident, independent and experienced speakers of English.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Perform close textual analysis of films, including the use of relevant terminology in a knowledgeable and critical manner.
2) Display enhanced critical, analytical and argumentative skills.
3) Effectively communicate analyses and evaluations in oral form (presenting on video) as well as in written form following a 5-paragraph essay plan (film review, film synopses,
4) Demonstrate analytical comprehension of film-crafting and genre conventions by recreating a scene from a key film of their choice.
