Course Description | Managing and peacefully resolving domestic and international tensions, which arise for various reasons and cause great economic and political losses, before they turn into a hot conflict, and making peace in conflicts that have turned into war, is one of the most important areas of the discipline of international relations. Ethnic-based conflicts that emerged in Europe or nearby regions, especially after the Cold War, continue to pose a serious risk for regional and world peace. In this context, it is aimed for international relations students to understand the characters of current tensions by learning the dynamics arising from factors such as past relations, culture and identity, to gain knowledge about conflict resolution approaches and techniques, and Europe's crisis management and intelligence activities and capacity in resolving conflicts and crises. | ||||
Course Description in Turkish | Muhtelif nedenlerle ortaya çıkarak ekonomik ve politik manada büyük kayıplara neden olan ülke içi ve ülkeler arası gerilimlerin sıcak çatışmaya dönüşmeden yönetilmesi ve barışçıl bir şekilde çözümlenmesi, savaşa dönüşen çatışmalarda ise barış yapılması uluslararası ilişkiler disiplinin en önemli alanlarından biridir. Özellikle soğuk savaş sonrasında Avrupa’da veya yakın coğrafyada ortaya çıkan etnik temelli çatışmalar bölgesel ve dünya barışı için ciddi bir risk teşkil etmeye devam etmektedir. Bu bağlamda, uluslararası ilişkiler öğrencilerinin, geçmiş ilişkiler, kültür ve kimlik gibi faktörlerden kaynaklanan dinamikleri öğrenerek mevcut gerilimlerin karakterlerini anlamaları, çatışmaların çözümlemesi yaklaşımları ve teknikleri ile çatışma ve krizlerin çözümlenmesinde Avrupa’nın kriz yönetimi ve istihbarat faaliyet ve kapasitesi konusunda bilgi sahibi olmaları hedeflenmektedir. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) Knows the security problems of the EU and learns its security strategies, opportunities and capabilities 2) Learns the dynamics of ethnic conflicts, knows general issues regarding conflict resolution, and recognizes the capacity of the EU. 3) Learn the basics of Crisis Management and recognize the possibilities and capabilities of the EU in this field. 4) To know the EU's "Responsibility to Protect" activities and Intelligence opportunities and capabilities. |
