Overall Educational Objective Develop critical analytical skills to evaluate the microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions of European integration, preferential liberalization, labor markets, monetary and fiscal policies, and regional development.
Course Description This course examines the economic foundations, policies, and challenges of European integration, with a focus on the European Union (EU). The course begins with an overview of the EU’s history and institutional framework, followed by an exploration of key topics such as preferential trade liberalization, labor market dynamics, monetary and fiscal policies, and regional development. Throughout the course, students will analyze critical EU policies, including the Common Agricultural Policy, competition policy, and social policies, as well as monetary integration through the creation of the Euro, the Euro crisis, and subsequent governance reforms. The course also addresses contemporary challenges such as Brexit, the economic impact of COVID-19, and the evolution of EU-Turkey relations.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Apply economic theories to analyze the integration process and its implications.
2) Evaluate the effectiveness of EU micro and macroeconomic policies.
3) Assess the dynamics of EU governance, including monetary union and fiscal reforms.
4) Interpret the economic and political challenges of the EU in a rapidly changing world.
5) Analyze the historical and prospective dimensions of EU-Turkey relations.

8) The ability to participate in and organize legal projects and activities as a socially responsible individual; to put his/her legal knowledge and skill to use efficiently (in the public or private sector).
9) The ability to use a foreign language at least on a B2 Level on the European Language Portfolio, to follow legal developments and communicate with colleagues in that language; to use computer software and information and communication technologies necessary in the law field at an Advanced Level of the European Computer Driving License.
10) Adoption of a positive approach to the concept of lifelong learning.
11) The ability to understand the development, evolution, and problems of the society and to contribute to the solution of these problems by legal methods.
12) The ability to understand the structure, organization, and functioning of law on the national and international level; to contribute to the development thereof.
