Overall Educational Objective To learn the key concepts relating to European Union legal system.
Course Description Legal model approaches to the legal foundations of the EU, the development of the European Union, the institutional framework, competences of the EU and secondary measures, the nature of EU and EU Law, the basic economic law of the EU, integration techniques and enforcement. The course will primarily focus on the structure and nature of the EU and the EU Legal system.
Course Description in Turkish AB'nin hukuki temellerine ilişkin yaklaşımlar, AB’nin gelişimi, AB Kurumlarına ilişkin yapı ve bu yapının özellikleri, AB’nin yetkileri, ikincil düzenleme yapma yetkisi ve kapsamı, AB’nin ve AB hukukunun yapısı, AB Hukukunun iktisadi alandaki düzenlemeleri, entegrasyon/ uyum teknikleri, başvurulabilecek hukuki çareler. Ders öncelikle AB'nin yapısı ve niteliği ile AB Hukuk sistemine odaklanacaktır.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Understands the role of the EU and EU Law in modern economies in a historical, national, and international context.
2) Explains the basics of EU Law and compares it to different legal systems.
3) Demonstrates a basic knowledge of legal foundations of EU law, its institutional framework, competences of the EU and enforcement.
4) Understands the basics and the nature of the EU and EU law.

6) The ability to critically analyze legal disputes, legislation, court decisions and different views in the legal science; to form his/her own opinions; to detect legal lacuna and suggest alternative solutions.
7) The ability to understand issues regarding different fields of law; to characterize and propose solutions to complex issues arising from legal practice.
8) The ability to participate in and organize legal projects and activities as a socially responsible individual; to put his/her legal knowledge and skill to use efficiently (in the public or private sector).
9) The ability to use a foreign language at least on a B2 Level on the European Language Portfolio, to follow legal developments and communicate with colleagues in that language; to use computer software and information and communication technologies necessary in the law field at an Advanced Level of the European Computer Driving License.
10) Adoption of a positive approach to the concept of lifelong learning.
11) The ability to understand the development, evolution, and problems of the society and to contribute to the solution of these problems by legal methods.
12) The ability to understand the structure, organization, and functioning of law on the national and international level; to contribute to the development thereof.

Teaching MethodsStudents work independently before class on readings and assignments. Class time is spent on theory, concepts, and application of materials.
Homework and ProjectsVize ödevi (sunum) % 40, final ödevi (makale) % 60. Öğrencilerin dersi geçebilmeleri için final ödevinden en az %50 puan almaları gerekmektedir. Geç teslim edilen ödevler kabul edilmeyecektir. Resmi bir mazeret (sağlık raporu veya resmi üniversite mazereti gibi) olmadan ödevlerin belirlenen günde sunulmaması 0 notu ile sonuçlanır. Resmi mazeretler mümkün olan en kısa sürede sunulmalıdır. Final ödevi için telafi (bütünleme) imkanı yoktur.
