Overall Educational Objective Learn the basics of regional and urban economics by examining how consumers and producers interact at the most local level and understand how local economic environment affects the decision of the individuals and firms.
Course Description This course aims to cover the fundamental issues in regional economics. Location decisions of individuals and economic actors are going to be discussed by referring the historical origins of location theory as well as recent advances in new economic geography. Moreover, discussions on the use of applied methods in regional science is going to be explained in order to encourage students to apply descriptive and analytical models. Additionally, contemporary issues in regional, spatial and urban economics are going to be highlighted within the course.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders bölgesel iktisat ile ilgili temel konuları kapsamayı amaçlamaktadır. Mekân teorileri ve yeni coğrafya iktisadında ortaya çıkan güncel tartışmalardan yararlanılarak bireylerin ve firmaların mekân seçme davranışları incelenecektir. Bölge bilimindeki güncel teknikler tartışılarak analitik ve uygulamalı çalışmalar yapılması sağlanacaktır. Ders ayrıca bölge bilimindeki, mekânsal ve kent ekonomisindeki birçok güncel konuyu da kapsayan tartışmalar gerçekleştirecektir.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Discuss location decisions and to link historical origins of inequalities with recent advances in urban economics, international trade and new economic geography
2) Evaluate spatial interactions and its importance for designing regional policies
3) Use descriptive and analytical tools of regional and spatial economics
4) Discuss the roots of regional disparities and its link with overall economic development and prosperity
5) Discuss the economic policy from the side of inclusiveness of economic development and growth.
