Course Description | This course aims to acquaint the students with the instruments and mechanisms of international human rights law against ill-treatment and to effectively apply the international protection standarts. After an introductive course on the definition of ill-treatment in different human rights instruments, the students will explore forms of ill-treatment in different contexts. The topics will be explored in a practical way, by doing interactive case-studies, which will enable the students to apply the gained knowledge and skills. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) differentiate forms of ill-treatment in international instruments: torture, inhuman treatment, degrading treatment or punishment 2) know and effectively apply international guarantees against ill-treatment in the UN system 3) know and effectively apply international guarantees against ill-treatment in the European Convention on Human Rights. 4) comprehend the instruments for combatting impunity for ill-treatment 5) understand national guarantees against ill-treatment in Turkish context. |
