Overall Educational Objective To acquire the knowledge of international human rights guarantees against ill-treatment
Course Description This course aims to acquaint the students with the instruments and mechanisms of international human rights law against ill-treatment and to effectively apply the international protection standarts. After an introductive course on the definition of ill-treatment in different human rights instruments, the students will explore forms of ill-treatment in different contexts. The topics will be explored in a practical way, by doing interactive case-studies, which will enable the students to apply the gained knowledge and skills.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders, öğrencileri kötü muameleye karşı uluslararası insan hakları hukukunun araçları ve mekanizmaları hakkında bilgilendirmeyi ve uluslararası koruma standartlarını etkin bir şekilde uygulamayı amaçlamaktadır. Farklı insan hakları belgelerinde kötü muamelenin tanımı üzerine giriş niteliğinde bir dersin ardından, öğrenciler farklı bağlamlarda kötü muamele türlerini öğreneceklerdir. Konular, öğrencilerin edindikleri bilgi ve becerileri uygulamalarını sağlayacak interaktif vaka çalışmaları yapılarak pratik bir şekilde incelenecektir.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) differentiate forms of ill-treatment in international instruments: torture, inhuman treatment, degrading treatment or punishment
2) know and effectively apply international guarantees against ill-treatment in the UN system
3) know and effectively apply international guarantees against ill-treatment in the European Convention on Human Rights.
4) comprehend the instruments for combatting impunity for ill-treatment
5) understand national guarantees against ill-treatment in Turkish context.

11) Ability to formulate critical hypotheses based on psychological theory and literature, and design studies to test those hypotheses.
