Overall Educational Objective The overall objective is being exposed to the principles of technical drawing to be familiar with the terminology and fundamentals of graphical commination in mechanical engineering, and learning the essential technical drawing skills including size and shape descriptions, projection methods, geometric construction, sections, and auxiliary views. This course also serves as the department’s introductory to computer-aided-design (CAD) techniques.
Course Description This course involves an introductory experience in technical drawing as a tool of graphical communication in mechanical engineering. Primary emphases are on development of basic drafting skills, visualization and solving graphical problems. Students then extend their drafting skills using Computer Aided Techniques (CAD) by means of SolidWorks software. They will practice their developed techniques by creating drawings in the engineering fields of Aerospace (aircraft manufacturing), Machine (manufacturing), Mechanical (heating, ventilation, AC, & sewer), and Structural (steel reinforcements, bridges).
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders öğrencilere Bilgisayar Destekli Teknik Resmin ilkelerini SOLIDWORKS kullanarak göstermektedir.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) draw technical views of a given part
2) Construct 3D body whose technical views are given
3) Create annotative objects (dimensions, tolerances, surface textures etc.)
4) Make assembly drawings
5) Create technical drawing of an object and present it
6) Use SolidWorks efficiently for technical drawing and engineering graphics
7) Understand the technical drawing standards and worldwide language for design
8) Create 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models of a real-life product for manufacturing and prototyping and present it as a team work activity
