Overall Educational Objective To learn and develop thinking, learning, and information-presentation skills crucial for success as a psychology student; to be able to prepare correctly-formatted, good quality essays, reports and presentations, while demonstrating a clear grasp of scientific method and excellent critical thinking.
Course Description This course aims to prepare first year students for deeper study in psychology. It will thoroughly ground students in APA writing style, and will also develop their skills in reading and critiquing psychological research publications. Finally, it will prepare students to make good-quality presentations. All these skills will be required later in the psychology programme, and in the students’ later professional lives.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders, birinci sınıf öğrencilerini psikoloji alanında daha ayrıntılı çalışmaya hazırlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Ders, öğrencilere APA yazı stilinde esaslı bir altyapı kazandıracaktır ve öğrencilerin psikoloji alanındaki araştırma makalelerini okuma ve eleştirme yeteneklerini geliştirecektir. Son olarak, bu ders öğrencileri kaliteli sunumlar yapabilmek üzere hazırlayacaktır. Bu beceriler hem Psikoloji programının sonraki dönemleri için hem de sonrasında öğrencilerin iş hayatları için gerekecektir.

Teaching MethodsThis course will use a flipped format. Students will prepare for class by watching videos and reading about the skills they will develop in that week’s classes. During class time, students will work together on ungraded exercises to develop those skills. Students will work alone or in groups according to their preference, and according to that week’s subject matter.

Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Students arriving late or unprepared will be barred from that class, which will impact upon their attendance grade. This can be from other students’ work, or from sources such as books, articles and websites, even if that source is cited in the student’s work.
