Course Description | This course provides advanced students with a comprehensive explanations of English grammar. The link between grammar and vocabulary is examined and areas of potential confusion are addressed. Importance is given to the difference between prescriptive (rule-based) grammar and descriptive (natural speech) grammar. Attention is also given to grammar teaching methods. | ||||
Course Description in Turkish | Bu ders ileri düzeydeki öğrencilere kapsamlı bir İngilizce dilbilgisi açıklaması sunar. Dilbilgisi ve kelime bilgisi arasındaki bağlantı incelenir ve potansiyel karışıklık alanları ele alınır. Reçete (kural tabanlı) dilbilgisi ve açıklayıcı (doğal konuşma) dilbilgisi arasındaki farka önem verilir. Dilbilgisi öğretim yöntemlerine de dikkat edilir. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) identify and correct grammatical errors in texts. 2) recognize and utilize different grammatical structures and their functions in communication; 3) explain the interaction between vocabulary and grammar; 4) engage critically with the issues that surround grammar and its relationship to the language and communication. |

Teaching Methods | This course is totally online except for the midterm and final exams, with mostly asynchronous mode and some synchronous weekly meetings. You must follow BB announcements and your MEF email frequently. | |||||||||||||||
Homework and Projects | Students will read grammar descriptions and complete exercises on the target forms. Students will self-correct the exercises and take weekly quizzes to demonstrate their learning. Students will write three essays during the semester to explain how their understanding of grammar is developing. Students will have one lesson plan project where they will create a lesson and materials to teach a grammar point inductively. | |||||||||||||||
