Overall Educational Objective To learn to understand the principals of furniture design and design approach while designing a product, furniture etc.
Course Description This course is an introduction to furniture design within the context of interior design. Students will look at the design methods, characteristics, creative solutions, diversity of materials and learn how to use these materials in furniture design.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders, iç mimarlıkta mobilya tasarımına giriş niteliğindedir. Öğrenciler, farklı tasarım metodlarını ve üretim yöntemlerini, yaratıcı çözümlemeleri inceleyecek ve malzemelerinin tasarımda nasıl kullanılacağını öğreneceklerdir.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) understand the role of furniture and related products providing both physical and spiritual dimension in interior design;
2) understand production methods and characteristics of different materials;
3) integrate products which they study on into one’s projects;
4) appreciate creative and experimental use of design products.

Teaching MethodsThe course will have presentations by the instructors as well as extensive discussion by the class. The course follows the ‘Flipped classroom’ model, with all readings available to the students prior to class.

Consequently, absenteeism exceeding 4 weeks (classes) will result in failure. %70 Attendance is essential for this course. Most of the class time will be allocated to discussion of weekly topics. Students have to be prepared and upload their weekly assignments before coming to class late submissions take points off. All students are responsible for behaving personally and academically in a way that is expected from a university student.
