Overall Educational Objective To learn about the functions of human resources departments in organizations, to acquire an understanding of the critical roles HR departments play, to be able to define and understand basic HR roles such as job analysis and performance appraisal
Course Description This introductory class informs all students about the basic functions and roles of human resources departments. It also highlights their importance for their future employers, as key resources. It also prepares the students for a potential career in human resources departments.
Course Description in Turkish Giriş seviyesindeki bu derste öğrenciler insan kaynakları departmanlarının temel görev ve roller konusunda bilgi edinecektirler. Ayrıca, kritik kaynaklar olarak gelecekteki işverenleri için kendi önemlerinin vurgulanması hedeflenmektedir. Son olarak, insan kaynakları departmanlarında çalışmayı düşünen öğrenciler için de bir hazırlık sağlayacaktır.

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) know and evaluate the HRM functions and how they relate to other organizational functions;
2) master the managerial skills involved in acquiring and maintaining a workforce that is both productive and high on maintenance factors such as loyalty and cohesiveness;
3) show how such important functions as human resource planning, job requirements, recruitment, selection, training, managerial development, career planning, performance appraisal, and compensation can be utilized in attaining organizational goals;
4) independently conduct personal career planning activities;
5) exhibit sensitivity toward HRM issues, identify problem areas more readily and resolve them more effectively.

Teaching MethodsThis course will use a flipped format. Students will prepare for class by watching videos and reading about the skills they will develop in that week’s classes. During class time, students will work together on ungraded exercises to develop those skills.
Homework and ProjectsThere will be two exams. In addition, individual performance and group performance will be evaluated separately. Individual tasks will consist of reflection papers, contribution to online discussions, and in-class participation. Group tasks will consist of one mini-project and one discussion leadership.
Laboratory Work
Computer UseStudents will be expected to use appropriate information technology both in preparation time, and during class hours. They will need to search for and read online resources and articles, work together on class exercises, and prepare their assignments.
