Overall Educational Objective | To be able to analyze the reasons for the developments occurring in the international arena and to predict how the processes will develop, and in this context, to examine what the effects of these developments may be in terms of Turkey's foreign policy and defense strategies. | ||||
Course Description | This course, which aims at analyzing the implications of major developments in the field of international security and strategy from past to present, the first part of which was taught in the previous Fall semester, will examine the global and regional developments taking place in the international arena from the perspective of Turkey. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) Understands prominent issues in the field of international security and strategy development processes from past to present and their effects today 2) Understands the changing processes of Turkey's foreign policy and defense strategies against developments in the international arena during and after the Cold War. 3) Analyzes the priorities and strategies developed by Turkey within the scope of the fight against global terrorism and the changing security issues in the period after the September 11 attacks 4) Analyzes the effects of the developments that started with the Arab Spring on the Middle East region and their reflections on Turkey's foreign policy and the security policies of the USA and the EU |

Teaching Methods | The course consists of the instructor's lectures and students' Op-Ed writing and Book Review assignments and presentations. Students will present them in writing and also orally in class. These presentations will be discussed in class with the participation of the students. | |||||||||||||||
Homework and Projects | The most basic principles are for learning the course fully and being successful.The rule is that you must be ready for all the courses, and come to class having done the necessary readings. • Attendance and participation in class directly affects success. Participation constitutes 20% of the student's final grade; • Students are required to complete their own work and cover the subject, write two 800-1,200 word-length opinion pieces (“Op-Ed”)to be determined by themselves in consultation with the course instructor.
