Overall Educational Objective To be able to analyze the reasons for the developments occurring in the international arena and to predict how the processes will develop, and in this context, to examine what the effects of these developments may be in terms of Turkey's foreign policy and defense strategies.
Course Description This course, which aims at analyzing the implications of major developments in the field of international security and strategy from past to present, the first part of which was taught in the previous Fall semester, will examine the global and regional developments taking place in the international arena from the perspective of Turkey.
Course Description in Turkish Uluslararası güvenlik ve strateji alanında öne çıkan konuların geçmişten günümüze gelişim süreçlerini ve günümüzdeki etkilerini incelemek, geleceğe dair öngörülerde bulunabilecek analizler yapmak amacına yönelik olarak planlanan ve birinci kısmı Güz döneminde işlenen bu dersin Bahar dönemindeki ikinci kısmında, uluslararası alanda meydana gelen küresel ve bölgesel gelişmelerin Türkiye perspektifinden analizleri yapılacaktır

Course Learning Outcomes and Competences

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Understands prominent issues in the field of international security and strategy development processes from past to present and their effects today
2) Understands the changing processes of Turkey's foreign policy and defense strategies against developments in the international arena during and after the Cold War.
3) Analyzes the priorities and strategies developed by Turkey within the scope of the fight against global terrorism and the changing security issues in the period after the September 11 attacks
4) Analyzes the effects of the developments that started with the Arab Spring on the Middle East region and their reflections on Turkey's foreign policy and the security policies of the USA and the EU

Teaching MethodsThe course consists of the instructor's lectures and students' Op-Ed writing and Book Review assignments and presentations. Students will present them in writing and also orally in class. These presentations will be discussed in class with the participation of the students.

Dersin tam manasıyla öğrenilmesi ve başarılı olunması için en temel kural derslerin tümüne, gerekli okumaları yapmış olarak, hazır gelinmesidir. • Derse devam ve katılım başarıyı direkt olarak etkilemektedir. Derse katılım, öğrencinin dönem sonu notunun %20’ni teşkil eder; • Öğrenciler, tümüyle kendi çalışmaları olması gereken ve konusunu dersin Öğretim Üyesine danışarak kendilerinin saptayacağı 800-1,200 kelime uzunluğunda iki düşünce yazısı (“Op-Ed”) yazmaları gerekmektedir. Her Op-Ed dönem sonu notunun %40’nı teşkil eder; Akademik dürüst olmama ve intihal durumlarında YÖK Disiplin Yönetmeliği uygulanır.
