Overall Educational Objective To become familiar with the basic theoretical background of major approaches about systemic family therapy.
Course Description This course will provide students with a broad overview of the field of family therapy; its evolution, distinct concepts, models, and research. Students will mainly be introduced to an integrative approach to systemic thinking and understand major family therapy models such as intergenerational, experiential, structural and strategic.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders öğrencilerin aile terapisinin gelişimi, ana kavramları, terapi modelleri ve araştırmaları ile ilgili genel bir bakış açısı kazanmalarını sağlayacaktır. Aile terapisinin ana terapi modelleri entegratif bir yaklaşımla sistemik bakış açısı kazandırılarak aktarılacaktır.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) know the history, development, and evolution of the field of family therapy;
2) recognize family systems theory as the basis of family therapy;
3) recognize the integration of family and play therapy;
4) understand and critically examine major family therapy approaches, their interventions, and applications;
5) conceptualize cases through a family therapy lens;
6) demonstrate awareness of the patterns in your own family-of-origin;
7) know assessment and research in the field.

11) Ability to formulate critical hypotheses based on psychological theory and literature, and design studies to test those hypotheses.

Teaching MethodsThis course will be taught in the flipped format. Students will be assigned an introductory online lecture every week as well as an empirical article. During class time, I will first assess and reinforce the students’ grasp of basic concepts from the online lecture. They will also be expected to contribute appropriately to class discussions and to assisting the learning of other students. I as the instructor commit to preparing and selecting high-quality materials for each class, at an appropriate level of English. This course also aims students to gain practical experience through voluntary family interview and genogram homework.
