Overall Educational Objective | To learn to understand the fundamental concepts in competitive strategy: industry analysis, strategy identification and evaluation, the relationship between strategy and organization, competitor analysis, firm and industry evolution, and strategic and organizational responses to external changes. | ||||
Course Description | Through the Business Practice course students learn practical tools and techniques needed to successfully plan and execute strategic outcomes. The students understand how to apply academic knowledge in the real-world. They get aware of the real-life applications of business plans and their executions through the guest speakers. The top executives transfer their experiences as students construct knows proper business planning and execution to ensure growth and financial sustainability. |
Course Learning Outcomes and CompetencesUpon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:1) identify the range, scope, and complexity of business, with issues and problems related to it; 2) predict various kinds of issues surrounding business decisions; 3) explain the inter-connection between the major functional areas of business toward managing a company; 4) describe a business model and a supporting business plan to capture potential business opportunities; 5) carry out the process of formulating a business model. |

Teaching Methods | Across the class several methods will be employed to disseminate business practice knowledge as lectures, exercises, videos, cases, discussions and guest speakers. | |||||||||||||||
Homework and Projects | The students will form groups that consist of 4-5 students. Each group is due to present a Business Case to the hypothetic clients in one out of last three weeks. Class presentations at least must contain the ingredients stated in outline. However, students are free to add relevant ingredients, as it will affect their grade. girgina@mef.edu.tr The instructor may act as facilitator for class/group discussions and observe how each student contributes / adds value to the discussed topic. The topic may either cover previous material or assigned new material from videos and book chapters. Homework, if assigned, must be submitted on time and in the requested format. Late submission will not be accepted. This is a flipped course where each student is expected to read assigned material and watch videos in advance, follow class and Blackboard, and actively participate. If you are sick on the day of the exam you need to submit a legitimate doctor’s report explicitly stating that your excuse prevents you from taking the exam in line with university regulations. Academic dishonesty and plagiarism will be subject to the YÖK disciplinary regulation. |
