Overall Educational Objective To learn to express one’s ideas by drawing.
Course Description The course starts with examining the methods of drawing which is the main expression way of the design world. Drawing techniques, various drawing tools, information and examples about color and light to be explained in the beginning of the course while the students experience them by practice. It is aimed for students to use drawing and sketching as a communication tool while learning to survey interiors, sketch furniture and design. In the end period, the students use the methods they have learned throughout the course and implement them to their own project design.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) sketch to express one’s thoughts;
2) choose the correct tools & techniques to present one’s design;
3) comprehend the effect of the light and the color on spaces in various scales and design objects.

Course Contents

1) Hello Chatting about the Traditional/Digital visualization tools. (Watercolor, marker, ink,rapido, charcoal, digital tools like graphic tablets.)
2) Warm-up 1 Remembering perspective knowledge. Parallel & Angular Perspective. Using golden ratio and the nature’s proportions on freehand expressions.
3) Warm-up 2 Analyzing the color theories. Impacts of the light and color to drawings. Survey to color schemes of “Munsell” & “Newton”
4) A Little Survey Analyzing and studying the examples from the master's hand & from different disciplines.
5) Colorize 1 Understanding the contrast & complementary colors.
6) Colorize 2 Using Marker/Rapido, Watercolor/Charcoal combinations effectively in interior expressions.
7) Texturizer Starting texture/tone studies using contrast & complementary colors. (Assignment: Texture/tone study using gouache or acrylic colors.)
8) Sketchmaster Freehand drawing study according the students main project subject, project location, communication with the environment, direction of the nature light & and the other physical effects.
9) Using collages as a template & making interior sketches on it.

Teaching MethodsThe course will have presentations by the instructor as well as extensive discussion by the class. The course follows the ‘Flipped classroom’ model, with all the required readings and materials are made available to the students prior to class.
