Overall Educational Objective To apprehend the production methods, characteristics, and manufacturing processes of textiles and to learn their spatial values in terms of colors, textures and patterns in various scales.
Course Description This course introduces the basic knowledge of textiles including fibre, properties, varieties and their uses. The topic of structure, colour, texture, surface and pattern will be covered. Students will explore textile design and how textiles enhance the aesthetics and the atmosphere in interior design. Also, they will practice ways to creatively integrate textiles and fibre in their design projects. This course consists of lectures and practical workshops.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) understand production methods, properties and uses of textiles;
2) analyze spatial values such as structures, colors textures and patterns in textiles;
3) choose textiles appropriately in their design projects;
4) appreciate creative and experimental use of textiles.

Teaching MethodsThe course will have presentations by the instructors as well as extensive discussion by the class. The course follows the ‘Flipped classroom’ model, with all readings available to the students prior to class.

Students are required to attend 70% of the classes in theoretical courses. Consequently, absenteeism exceeding 4 weeks (classes) will result in failure. %70 Attendance is essential for this course. Most of the class time will be allocated to discussion of weekly topics. Students have to be prepared and upload their weekly assignments before coming to class late submissions take points off. All students are responsible for behaving personally and academically in a way that is expected from a university student.
