Overall Educational Objective To acquire knowledge and skills for agile project management, such as iterative development, scrum teams and roles, product backlog items and time-boxed meetings.
Course Description Agile projects and agile project management are trending topics in business life. Companies are heavily working on agile processes, agile transition and creating a more flexible organization. Agile project management, due to its nature, is very suitable for software projects, new product development and research and development projects. It is a very effective tool for managing projects which have characteristics of uncertainty, changeability, risk and unforeseeability. Therefore, this course aims to provide the students with the basic body of knowledge about terms and definitions in agile project management, iterative development, scrum, sprints, teams and roles, time boxed meetings and their agenda, communication with customer and stakeholders, burndown charts, kan-ban boards, progress reporting, velocity and flexibility in scope.
Course Description in Turkish Çevik projeler ve çevik proje yönetimi iş hayatının son dönemde yükselen trendidir. Firmalar çevik süreçlere, çeviğe geçiş çabalarına çok büyük zaman ve efor harcamakta ve daha esnek bir yapıya kavuşmak için uğraşmaktadır. Çevik proje yönetimi doğası gereği yazılım projelerine, yeni ürün geliştirme ve Ar-Ge projelerine çok uygundur. Öngörülemeyen, riskli, kesinliği olmayan ve sürekli değişiklik gerektiren projeleri yönetmek için çok önemli bir araçtır. Bu ders öğrencilere çevik proje yönetimi dünyasındaki temel tanım ve terimler, aşamalı geliştirme, Scrum metodu, iterasyonlar, çevik takımlar ve içindeki roller, zaman kısıtlı toplantılar ve her birinin gündemi, müşteri ve diğer paydaşlarla iletişim, ilerleme raporları ve şemaları, Kan-Ban şemaları, iterasyon hızı ve kapsamdaki esneklik konuları hakkında bilgi birikimi kazandırmayı amaçlar.

Required/Recommended ReadingsVarious articles (e.g. Agile Manifest, Scrum basics) will be given as homework. Additional readings on the internet will be provided.
Teaching MethodsIn order to achieve learning objectives, the course will include reinforcement of active participation, quizzes, oral exams, readings, homework in addition to project presentations in teams and mid-term and final exams. Summary of covered topics will be the opening activity for each class session in order to make sure that the most important subjects are reviewed and remembered by all participants. The methods which will be used throughout the course are real life case studies, group projects, presentations, in-class discussions. Every member of the class is expected to freely share her/his knowledge, ideas and questions with the group without any concern. In all kinds of teaching and learning activities, student participation, active learning and learning by doing are essential.
Homework and ProjectsThe students will be making two presentations as a group throughout the course. The groups will be formed and the details of the projects will be announced later by the instructor. Each group will have maximum 5 members and each team member will present their part individually. Additionally, homework will be provided as article readings; summarizing them in class and providing related papers will be demanded as individual studies.

In this course, active participation is key to learning and applying. Thus the grading of the class participation will be done based on the quality of active student participation and contribution to in-class activities. Students are expected to attend all sessions and be in class on time. When they can not attend due to a sickness (which should require a report from a full facility hospital) or an excuse accepted by MEF regulations, they should inform the instructor by mail. Academic dishonesty and plagiarism will be subject to the YÖK disciplinary regulation.
