Teaching MethodsFlipped learning, face-to-face meetings
Homework and ProjectsReflection Papers (30%): Students will be asked to complete 2 reflection papers at different points of the class. As these are reflection papers, they should consist mainly of the student’s person experience and thoughts/feelings regarding the topic. Students are also encouraged to include course material as appropriate. These papers should be 2-3 pages in length. Reflection Paper 1: Choose one of the following topics: Chapter 2 &3, Chapters 4 &5, or Chapters 6 & 7. Write a reflection paper on you chosen topic. Please share with me your experiences with your chose topic and how it affects your life. Include and elaborate upon any relevant material from class. Further guidance on this assignment will be provided during the semester. Reflection Paper 2: Reflect on what was covered in chapter 13 and share the ways you understand and make meaning from life. Talk about what values you have and how you came to develop them. Include any relevant material learned in class and from the chapter. Final Paper—Developmental Narrative (30%): Using information learned throughout the course, please construct a narrative of your own personal development. Focus on the past, present, and future. Discuss how you have encountered and overcome adjustment issues in the past and how you imagine you will respond to adjustment issues in the future. This paper should be 3-4 pages in length. Further guidance for completing this assignment will be provided during the semester. Participation (Journaling) and Attendance (10%): Regular attendance and participation in discussions is much appreciated. One can “participate” in many ways. Asking questions, making comments, and contributing to class discourse are all ways in which students can effectively participate in class. Students are allowed 4 excused absences, after which students will receive an automatic 0 for the class as per YOK regulations. Due to the difficulties of online learning, participation will be graded through an ongoing journaling assignment that I will check on regular intervals throughout the course. You will be asked at the end of each class to create and add to a journal in which you reflect on the materials learned in class as well as any personal reactions you have towards them. Journaling prompts and questions will be provided at the beginning of each class to aid you in this task. As these are journal entries, they should be ½ to 1 page in length. We will discuss this assignment in class.
