Overall Educational Objective Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to: 1. compare language teaching methods and approaches; 2. discuss the main characteristics of content-based approaches; 3. discuss the main charecteristics of task-based approaches; 4. discuss the main characteristics of participatory approaches; 5. compare the political dimensions of language teaching; 6. use the basic principles of cooperative learning in teaching; 7- apply theories of multiple intelligences in language teaching classes.
Course Description The primary purpose of this course is to familiarize students with current language teaching approaches and methods. The theory and practice underlying each method will be discussed and students will gain experience in applying these methods through peer teaching. Students will engage in reflective analysis and self-evaluation, and become more aware of their teaching styles and approaches.
Course Description in Turkish Bu programın temel amacı öğrencilere güncel dil öğretim yaklaşım ve metodlarını tanıtmaktır. Öğrencilerle dil öğrenme ve öğretme kuramları temelinde tasarlanmış yöntem ve yaklaşımlar analiz edilir.Kuram ve uygulama arasındaki ilişki gözlenerek, İngiliz dili eğitimi alanının gelişim sürecinde ele alınır. Öğrenciler bu yöntem ve yaklaşımları uygulayarak hem bilgilerini artırırlar hemde kendi uygulamalarını değerlendirirler. Böylece öğrenciler temel yaklaşım ve metodlarla ilgili hem teorik hemde pratik bilgi sahibi olurlar.

Teaching MethodsSome lecture, but mostly seminar/discussion. Students will work in groups to negotiate understanding of the issues and conduct an action research study. Students will read the assigned chapter and watch videos and complete pre-class work before coming to class. Group and class discussion and student presentations will take place in class. Students are expected to participate actively in class discussions.
Homework and ProjectsStudents will have a reading assignment and reflective questions to answer every week. Students are expected to read and answer questions prior to class and in the class students are expected to ask questions and complete tasks according to the flipped classroom methodology.
