Overall Educational Objective By teaching the EU's understanding of security and regional security relations, students are given the ability to analyze security analytically.
Course Description Bu derste Avrupa güvenliği, Bölgesel Güvenlik Kompleksi Teorisi analitik çerçevesi kapsamında incelenecektir. Bu sayede katılımcılar tarafından günümüz Avrupa Güvenlik Mimarisi (AGM)’ni oluşturan/oluşturacak dinamiklerin, geçmiş olaylar, coğrafi hususlar ve bölgesel etkileşimler ile yeni tehditler ışığında daha iyi anlaşılması hedeflenmektedir. Böylece, günümüzdeki ve gelecekteki AB güvenliği ile ilgili gelişmeleri daha kapsamlı ve doğru bir şekilde analiz edilebilmeleri için bir analitik bir yaklaşım geliştirmeleri sağlanacaktır. Bahse konu hedefe ulaşmak maksadıyla, dönem boyunca, öncelikle AGM’nin evrimi incelenerek bugün AB’nin UA ilişkilerdeki rolü ve konumu irdelenecektir. Müteakiben, postmodern tehditler, güvenlik yaklaşımları ve bunların AB’ye etkileri araştırılacaktır. Nihayetinde aktör veya bölge bazında AB’nin ilişkileri Bölgesel Güvenlik Kompleksi Teorisi doğrultusunda detaylı olarak incelenerek AGM’nin gelecekte nasıl şekillenebileceği öngörülmeye çalışılacaktır.
Course Description in Turkish In this course, European security will be examined within the analytical framework of Regional Security Complex Theory. In this way, it is aimed for the participants to better understand the dynamics that form/will form today's European Security Architecture (AGM) in the light of past events, geographical issues, regional interactions and new threats. Thus, they will be able to develop an analytical approach to analyze current and future EU security-related developments more comprehensively and accurately. In order to achieve the said goal, throughout the period, first of all, the evolution of the AGM will be examined and the role and position of the EU in IA relations will be examined today. Subsequently, postmodern threats, security approaches and their effects on the EU will be investigated. Finally, the EU's relations on an actor or region basis will be examined in detail in line with the Regional Security Complex Theory and it will be tried to predict how the AGM may be shaped in the future.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) AB’nin imkan ve kabiliyetlerini öğrenir. Güvenlik mimarisinin esaslarını kavramak.
2) AB’nin küresel seviyede diğer bölgelerle olan güvenlik ilişkilerini maddi ve maddi olmayan yapıları analiz ederek öğrenmek.
3) Bir teoriyi kullanma ve analiz yapma yeteneğini geliştirmek.
4) Analitik düşünme yeteneğini güçlendirmek.

Teaching MethodsThe course will be conducted by creating an environment of active participation and discussion after students complete weekly readings, and students will make presentations on certain topics. • According to a plan, students will prepare and present 10-minute presentations on that week's course topic. Following this, active discussion will take place. • The following analytical analysis method of Regional Security Complexes Theory will be used in the presentations: o Internal sensitivities of regional actors o Relationship between regional countries (regional anarchy/culture-power distribution-polarization-perceptions of friendship and hostility) o Relations of the region with the EU (Security Dilemma and Securitization) o The effects of other global powers on the region
