Overall Educational Objective To develop familiarity to the basic concepts of cognitive behavioural therapy and to understand theoretical basis of clinical psychology.
Course Description This course is designed to provide students with a broad background in cognitive behavioural therapy such as historical basis, analysing of recent theories and research in the major areas of cognitive behavioral therapy, understanding approach to different psychopathologies in terms of cognitive behavioural therapy, assessment of psychopathologies via scales or inventories, psychotherapeutically interventions and prevention of behavior disorders etc. Students will also learn to the methods psychologists use in interview.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders, öğrencilere bilişsel davranışçı terapinin temel tarihi, bilişsel davranışçı terapinin temel alanlarındaki yeni teorilerin ve araştırmaların analizi, farklı psikopatolojilere bilişsel davranışçı terapi açısından yaklaşımı ve ölçekler veya envanterler aracıyla psikopatolojilerin değerlendirilmesi, bilişsel ve davranışçı müdahaleler ile davranış bozukluklarının önlenmesi gibi geniş bir arka plan sunmak amacıyla tasarlanmıştır. Öğrenciler ayrıca psikologların görüşmede kullandıkları yöntemleri de öğreneceklerdir.

Upon successful completion of the course, the learner is expected to be able to:
1) Bilişsel davranışçı terapinin teorik temelini tanımlamak;
2) Tedavi için danışana göre farklı planlar ve müdahaleler oluşturmak;
3) Klinik değerlendirme yöntemlerini tanımlamak ve bilişsel davranışçı terapi perspektifine göre çeşitli klinik müdahale türlerini açıklamak;
4) Görüşmeler sırasında temel bilişsel ve davranışsal müdahaleleri nasıl uygulayacağınızı bilmek;
5) Bilişsel davranışçı terapi oturumlarındaki psikoterapistin rolünü değerlendirmek;
6) Farklı psikopatolojileri veya bozuklukları tespit etmek ve bunlarla başa çıkmak;
7) Bilişsel davranışçı terapiyi kullanarak bir danışanın biyopsikososyal-spiritüel işleyişini değerlendirme ve tanı sırasında anlamak, kavramsallaştırmak ve belgelemek.

8) Psikoloji bilimi bilgisini Türkçe ve en azından CEFR B2 düzeyinde İngilizce olmak üzere çeşitli formatlarda etkili bir şekilde iletme becerisi.
9) Sosyokültürel ve uluslararası çeşitliliğin karmaşıklığını tanıma, anlama ve buna saygı gösterme.
10) Yaşam boyu öğrenme, araştırma ve kendini geliştirme ihtiyacını tanıma ve bu doğrultuda beceriler geliştirme.
11) Psikolojik teori ve literatüre dayanarak eleştirel hipotezler oluşturma ve bu hipotezleri test etmek için çalışmalar tasarlama becerisi.

Required/Recommended ReadingsBeck, J. S. (2011). Cognitive behavior therapy: Basics and beyond (2nd ed.). Guilford Press. Tolin, F.T. (2016). Doing CBT: A comprehensive Guide to Working with Behaviors, Thought, and Emotions. The Guilford Press. There will also be a set of required essays.
Teaching MethodsA variety of teaching strategies will be used in this class, including lecture, discussion, videos and role-plays. For students to benefit from these teaching strategies, it is critical that they keep pace with readings assigned in class. Additionally, students will take part in role-plays demonstrating the application of cognitive-behavioral interventions. Students will note that some of the material presented in class will be consistent with their readings in their text.
Homework and ProjectsStudents will be asked to coordinate therapy sessions which demonstrate a specific cognitive behavioral interventions. They will be asked to read the articles and case reports.

Other ActivitiesStudents will responsible to watch videos before the class sessions with regard to that week’s subject. Classroom discussions will be arranged according to these videos.

Attendance at all classes is mandatory. Students arriving late or unprepared will be barred from that class, which will impact upon their continuous assessment grade.
