Overall Educational Objective

To become familiar with the theoretical background of the psychoanalytic thought and to be able to understand and critique empirical materials written in the psychoanalytic concept.

Course Description

The course aims to enable student to understand the history of modern psychoanalytic models such as classical psychoanalytic tradition, ego psychology, interpersonal psychoanalysis, Klenian theories, object relations, identity and self, contemporary Freudian Revisionists. At the end of this course, students will be gained the knowledge of how psychoanalytic thought was evolved since Sigmund Freud. Also, student will be able to evaluate the different perspectives in psychopathologies and developmental issues.

Bu ders, öğrencinin modern psikanalitik modellerin tarihini öğretmesini amaçlamaktadır. Dönemin sonunda öğrenci, Sigmund Freud’dan itibaren psikanalitik kuramların nasıl değiştiğine dair bilgi sahibi olacaktır. Ayrıca, öğrenci psikopatolojileri ve gelişimsel meseleleri farklı açılardan değerlendirebilme becerisine sahip olacaktır.

Teaching Methods

This course will be taught in the flipped format. Students will be assigned an introductory online lecture every week. During class time, I will first assess and reinforce the students’ grasp of basic concepts from the online lecture. I as the instructor commit to preparing and selecting popular readings in the concept for each class. Students will be expected to prepare for class by spending sufficient time to master the preparatory materials. They will also be expected to contribute appropriately to class discussions. Classroom discussions will also be based on the suggested readings as well as various videos.

Homework and Projects

Students will be asked to watch the suggested movie and write an evaluation about the leading character, based on the concepts are taught.
