Overall Educational Objective To learn how the cinema industry functions as well as the behind the scenes of film production in Turkey and the world; to examine the steps of film development and to be able to create a short film project to be presented at the film festival markets.
Course Description This course focuses on the cinema industry and how it functions. In the first part we look at cinema as a business and learn about the roles of the crew: director, producer, scriptwriter, line producer etc. In the second part of our class, we will start developing a short film from an idea and follow the steps of development. We will learn how to write a treatment, synopsis, what makes a good pitch and how to create a look book and a mood board/ video. Every other week, we will have a professional guest from the industry, to give us insight about the film industry.
Course Description in Turkish Bu ders sinema endüstrisinin nasıl işlediğini, sinemaya bir endüstri olarak bakmayı ve de film ekibinin rollerini açıklamaya çalışır. Film seti nasıl işler, film setinde yönetmen, yapımcı, senarist, uygulayıcı yapımcı… ne iş yapar konularını işler. Dersin ikinci bölümünde, bir film projesine nasıl başlandığı anlatılır, ve de öğrenciler dönemin sonunda bir fikirden kısa bir film geliştirecekler. Filmlerin fikir halindeyken nasıl sunumlarının yapıldığını, treatman synopsis ve de mood book videolar nasıl yapılır öğrenip, öğrenciler kendi projelerini geliştireceklerdir. İki haftada bir, sektörden bir profesyonel sınıfta konuğumuz olacak ve de film endüstrisi hakkında kendi tecrübeleri anlatacak.

Teaching MethodsThis course will be taught in the flipped format. Students will be expected to come prepared to that week’s class. I will give them some questions beforehand in order to guide them. During the class time, they will discuss their interpretation of the industry on their answers to the given questions.
Homework and ProjectsStudents will be asked to write a film project proposal and a paper about introduced concepts during this course.
